Brachypoda stagna was named by Zhang (1989). It is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Shanwang, Linqu County, collection 3, which is in a Burdigalian lacustrine - large mudstone in the Shanwang Formation of China. It is the type species of Brachypoda.
