Taxonomy
Kolponomos clallamensis was named by Stirton (1960). Its type specimen is UCMP 50056, a partial skull (rostrum), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Slip Point Lighthouse, which is in an Aquitanian marine shale/sandstone in the Clallam Formation of Washington. It is the type species of Kolponomos.
