Murchisonia attenuata was named by Hall (1856). It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Solenospira attenuata by Ulrich and Scofield (1897); it was recombined as Ectomaria attenuata by Yochelson and Saunders (1967); it was recombined as Hypergonia attenuata by Wagner (2023).
