Taxonomy
Marginella (Serrata) xanthophaes was named by Gardner (1947). Its type specimen is USNM 328678, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is USGS Loc. 2564 - McCleland farm [Chipola Fm], which is in a Burdigalian marine marl/sandstone in the Chipola Formation of Florida.
