Taxonomy
Spirigera (Athyris) hirsuta was named by Hall (1857).

It was recombined as Spirifera hirsuta by Hall (1856); it was recombined as Athyris hirsuta by Whitfield (1882) and Walcott (1884); it was recombined as Cleiothyris hirsuta by Weller (1901); it was recombined as Cleiothyridina hirsuta by Weller (1914) and Girty (1915).
