Taxonomy
Cyrtosymbole (Cyrtosymbole) playfordi was named by Feist and Becker (1997). Its type specimen is GSWA- F49820, a cephalon/head (cranidium), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Bed 17. Sprite Ridge, near Bob's Bore in Virgin Hills, which is in a Famennian reef, buildup or bioherm limestone in the Virgin Hills Formation of Australia.

(Cyrtosymbole) with the following particular features: cephalon with posteriorly shifted, large palpebral lobes extending beyond exsagittal projection of ~ turning-point ; eyes high with large visual surface; straight posterior portion of suture short; pygidium with narrow, high axis; postero-lateral margins with broad, moderately inflated border defined by continuous shallow border furrow.
