Taxonomy
Phymosoma dixie was named by Cooke (1941). Its type specimen is USNM 372867 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Clara, near, which is in a Priabonian marine limestone in the Ocala Formation of Florida.

It was recombined as Dixieus dixie by Kier (1980).
