Taxonomy
Ewingia problematica was named by Case and Cappetta (1997). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Kemp Clay Formation, which is in a Maastrichtian marine claystone/sandstone in the Kemp Clay Formation of Texas. It is the type species of Ewingia, Tomewingia.

It was recombined as Tomewingia problematica by Case and Cappetta (2013).
