Thylechinus (Gagaria) salis was named by Cooke (1941). Its type specimen is USNM 166497 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Salt Mountain [Salt Mountain Lmst], which is in a Thanetian reef, buildup or bioherm reef rocks in the Salt Mountain Limestone Formation of Alabama.
