Ammonites subclausus was named by Oppel (1863). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Plateau de Champagnole, which is in an Oxfordian marine limestone in France.
It was recombined as Glochiceras (Glochiceras) subclausum by Schlegelmilch (1994) and Howarth (1998).
