Graptolites lobiferus was named by M'Coy (1850).

It was recombined as Monograptus lobiferus by Lapworth (1876); it was recombined as Streptograptus lobiferus by Suñer Coma (1957); it was recombined as Campograptus lobiferus by Chopey-Jones et al. (2003).
