Mytilus mathewsonii was named by Gabb (1866) [DISTRIBUTION: Late Oligocene; Pacific Coast, North America.]. It is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Mytilus (Mytiloconcha) mathewsonii by Clark (1918) and Durham (1944); it was recombined as Mytilus (Mytiloconcha) mathewsoni by Clark and Arnold (1923); it was recombined as Crenomytilus mathewsoni by Addicott (1973); it was recombined as Mytilus (Crenomytilus) mathewsonii by Moore (1983).
