Ceratites ecarinatus was named by Hauer (1896).

It was recombined as Nevadites ecarinatus by Vörös and Pálfy (1989); it was recombined as Kellnerites ecarinatus by Brack and Rieber (1993); it was recombined as Reitziites ecarinatus by Vörös (2018).
