Taxonomy
Perissitys elaphia was named by Popenoe and Saul (1987). Its type specimen is UCLA 59606 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is CIT loc. 1232, Price Hollow, which is in a Santonian coastal siliciclastic in the Redding Formation of California.
