Taxonomy
Pinus prelambertiana was named by Axelrod (1958). Its type specimen is UCMP Paleobotany 309 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Verdi Flora, which is in a Pliocene fluvial-lacustrine horizon in the Coal Valley Formation of Nevada.
