Ptychomphalus pisum was named by de Koninck (1883). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Pauquys, which is in an Ivorian carbonate wackestone in the Waulsort Formation of Belgium.
It was recombined as Mourlonia pisa by Wagner (2023).
