Diagnosis
ReferenceDiagnosis
C. Fenton 1928Shell medium to large. Dimensions of the allotype: length of pedicle valve, 25.7 mm.; length of brachial valve, 24.9 mm.; width 36.2 mm.; thickness 9.2 mm.; height of cardinal area 2.6 mm.

Pedicle valve convex umbonally, strongly concave medially, and reversed on the extremities. These are produced and moderately crenulate. Anterior margin nasute. Cardinal area flat; delthyrium wide, deltidium highly convex. Intra- marginal ridge low and rounded, and crossed by fine vascular canals. The muscular area is elongate flabelliform, with high, sharp boundaries and sharp, radiating ridges on the diductor scars. Adductor scars linear, situated on a low elevation which expands posteriorly but fails to reach the umbonal region. Teeth strong and high; genital area pustulose.

Brachial valve flattened umbonally, strongly convex medially, reversed on the moderately wrinkled extremities. Internal characters not known.

Surface marked by irregularly alternating costae, from 3 to 5 fine ones to each coarse. The concentric wrinkles are fainter than in S. musculosa.
