Spirifer incertissimus was named by Godefroid et al. (2002). Its type specimen is MB.B. 258.2 and is a 3D body fossil. It is the type species of Incertia.
It was recombined as Incertia incertissima by Mittmeyer (2008) and Franke (2016).
