Meretrix nitida was named by Gabb (1864).

It was recombined as Caryatis nitida by Gabb (1869); it was recombined as Aphrodina nitida by Stewart (1930); it was recombined as Calva nitida by Popenoe (1937); it was recombined as Trigonocallista nitida by Taff et al. (1940); it was recombined as Calva (Egelicalva) nitida by Saul and Popenoe (1992).
