Hauffiosaurus longirostris
Taxonomy
Plesiosaurus longirostris was named by Tate and Blake (1876). Its type specimen is MCZ 1033, a skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is 'Alum Shale' (Harpoceras falciferum), Whitby-Saltwick section, Yorkshire, which is in a Falciferum marine shale in the Whitby Mudstone Formation of the United Kingdom.
It was recombined as Macroplata longirostris by White (1940) and O'Keefe (2001); it was recombined as Rhomaleosaurus longirostris by Broadhurst and Duffy (1970); it was recombined as Hauffiosaurus longirostris by Benson et al. (2011).
