Muraenosaurus leedsii

Taxonomy
Muraenosaurus leedsii was named by Seeley (1874). Its type specimen is BMNH R2421, a partial skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Huntingdonshire marine reptiles, which is in a Callovian marine horizon in the Oxford Clay Formation of the United Kingdom.

It was recombined as Plesiosaurus leedsi by Whidborne (1881); it was synonymized subjectively with Cimoliosaurus plicatus by Lydekker (1889); it was misspelled as Muraenosaurus leedsi by Andrews (1910), Welles (1962), Brown (1981) and O'Keefe (2001); it was corrected as Muraenosaurus leedsi by Gasparini et al. (2002).
