Terrapene eurypygia

Taxonomy
Cistudo eurypygia was named by Cope (1870). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Oxford Neck, which is in a Pleistocene terrestrial horizon in Maryland.

It was synonymized subjectively with Testudo carolina by Parris and Daeschler (1995); it was recombined as Terrapene eurypygia by Cope (1899), Hay (1902), Hay (1908), Hay (1930), Milstead (1956) and Vlachos (2018).

Vlachos 2018Terrapene eurypygia can be diagnosed as a member of Pan-Emydidae based on the full list of characters mentioned above and of Terrapene based on the medial contact of costals VIII and the single suprapygal. Terrapene eurypygia differs from other Terrapene in the presence of a contact between the vertebral V and marginal X.
