Ostrea folium was named by Linnaeus (1758) [DISTRIBUTION: Miocene-Recent; Indonesia.]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Ostrea (Lopha) folium by Oostingh (1935); it was recombined as Ostrea (Alectryonia) folium by Abrard (1946); it was recombined as Lopha (Lopha) folium by Skwarko (1994); it was recombined as Dendostrea folium by Lam and Morton (2009).
