It was reranked as the unranked clade Squalea by Kriwet (2005).

It was assigned to Neoselachii by Delsate et al. (2002), Delsate (2003) and Underwood and Ward (2004); to Neoselachii by Kriwet (2005); and to Elasmobranchii by Carnevale (2007).
