Taxonomy
Goniaster porosus was named by Agassiz (1835). It is not extant.

It was recombined as Astrogonium porosum by Dujardin and Hupé (1862); it was recombined as Astropecten porosus by de Tribolet (1873), de Loriol (1874), Lehner (1937) and Hess (1955).
