Latiala was named by Sohl (1960) [Sepkoski's age data: K Apti K Maes-u Sepkoski's reference number: 790]. Its type is Anchura lobata.

It was assigned to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002); to Aporrhaidae by Kiel and Bandel (2004); and to Arrhoginae by Kollmann (2009).
