Taxonomy
Pecten ornatus was named by Lamarck (1819) [DISTRIBUTION: Recent; Western Atlantic.]. It is extant. Its type specimen is GNH 1088/75, a shell.

It was recombined as Chlamys ornatus by Verrill and Bush (1897); it was recombined as Pecten (Chlamys) ornatus by Dall (1898); it was recombined as Caribachlamys ornatus by Waller (1993).
