Spathochlamys vaginulus was named by Dall (1898) [TYPE SPECIMEN: Represented by lectotype. DISTRIBUTION: Late Miocene-Late Pliocene; North Carolina-Dominican Republic.]. Its type specimen is USNM 135786, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.
