It was reranked as the subfamily Lariosaurinae by Nopsca (1928) and Nopcsa (1928).

It was assigned to Sauropterygia by Lydekker (1889); to Nothosauridae by Nopsca (1928) and Nopcsa (1928); to Nothosauroidea by Young (1965); and to Nothosauria by Kuhn (1966).
