Lentigo was named by Jousseaume (1886) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-u R Sepkoski's reference number: 1074]. It is extant. Its type is Strombus lentiginosus.

It was reranked as Strombus (Lentigo) by Jousseaume (1886), Ladd (1982), Jung and Heitz (2001), Todd (2001) and Harzhauser (2004).
