Lentigo was named by Jousseaume (1886) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-u R Sepkoski's reference number: 1074]. It is extant. Its type is Strombus lentiginosus.

It was reranked as Strombus (Lentigo) by Jousseaume (1886), Ladd (1982), Jung and Heitz (2001), Todd (2001) and Harzhauser (2004).

It was assigned to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002); and to Strombus by Jousseaume (1886), Ladd (1982), Jung and Heitz (2001), Todd (2001) and Harzhauser (2004).
