Leptoptygma was named by Knight (1936) [Sepkoski's age data: C Serp C Step Sepkoski's reference number: 1,797]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Subulitinae by Knight et al. (1960); to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002); to Strobeidae by Bandel (2002); to Subulitidae by Nützel et al. (2000) and Ketwetsuriya et al. (2020); and to Soleniscidae by Wagner (2023).
