Qatrania was named by Simons and Kay (1983). Its type is Qatrania wingi. It was considered monophyletic by Kay and Williams (1994) and Beard et al. (2016).
It was assigned to Parapithecidae by Simons and Kay (1983) and Seiffert et al. (2005); and to Qatraniinae by Kay and Williams (1994), Beard et al. (2016) and Mattingly et al. (2021).
