Taxonomy
Parapithecoidea was named by Schlosser (1911) [also attributed to Kälin 1961]. It is not extant. It was considered monophyletic by Kay et al. (2004).
It was reranked as the infraorder Parapithecoidea by Kay et al. (2004); it was reranked as the unranked clade Parapithecoidea by Seiffert et al. (2005).
It was assigned to Catarrhini by Carroll (1988); to Anthropoidea by Simons (2001) and Kay et al. (2004); and to Anthropoidea by Seiffert et al. (2005).
