Taxonomy
Serapia was named by Simons (1992). Its type is Serapia eocaena. It was considered monophyletic by Kay and Williams (1994).
It was assigned to Qatraniinae by Kay and Williams (1994); to Parapithecidae by Simons (1992) and Gunnell and Miller (2001); and to Proteopithecidae by Seiffert et al. (2005).
