Portlandia atkinsoni was named by Johnston (1880) [DISTRIBUTION: Late Oligocene-Early Miocene; Tasmania.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Nucula atkinsoni by Tate (1886); it was recombined as Pronucula atkinsoni by Darragh (1970).
