Taxonomy
Litiopa was named by Rang (1829) [Sepkoski's age data: T Dani R]. It is extant. It is the type genus of Litiopinae.

It was assigned to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002); and to Litiopidae by Gardner (1947), Wilson (1993), Pacaud and Le Renard (1995) and Bouchet et al. (2005).
