Boultonia was named by Lee (1927) [Sepkoski's age data: P Asse-u P Guad-l Sepkoski's reference number: 145]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Boultoniinae.
It was assigned to Schubertellidae by Ho (1957); to Foraminiferida by Sepkoski (2002); to Boultoniinae by Skinner and Wilde (1954), Zhang (1982) and Kobayashi and Altiner (2008); and to Boultoniidae by Leven (1995) and Okuyucu (2009).
