Maoricrypta was named by Finlay (1926) [Sepkoski's age data: T Ol R Sepkoski's reference number: 909]. It is extant.

It was reranked as Crepidula (Maoricrypta) by Wenz (1940).

It was assigned to Crepidula by Wenz (1940); to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002); and to Calyptraeidae by Fleming (1966), Marshall (2003) and Beu (2010).
