Arca ovalis was named by Bruguiere (1789) [DISTRIBUTION: Holocene-Recent; Western Atlantic.]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Anadara ovalis by Richards (1962); it was recombined as Anadara (Lunarca) ovalis by da Silva Forti (1969); it was recombined as Lunarca ovalis by Rosenberg (2005).
