Venus orbiculata was named by Montagu (1808) [DISTRIBUTION: North Carolina-Mexico and circum-Caribbean.]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Codakia (Ctena) orbiculata by da Silva Forti (1969); it was recombined as Ctena orbiculata by Rosenberg (2005).
