Palaeuridae was named by Spencer (1951). It is not extant. Its type is Palaeura. It is the type family of Palaeuricae.

It was assigned to Palaeuricae by Spencer (1951) and Owen (1965); and to Parophiurina by Spencer and Wright (1966) and Boczarowski (2001).
