Petrasteridae was named by Spencer (1951). It is not extant. Its type is Petraster.

It was assigned to Pustulosa by Spencer (1951) and Owen (1965); to Hemizonina by Spencer and Wright (1966); and to Pustulosida by Blake (1989).
