Buccinum cinereum was named by Born (1778) [DISTRIBUTION: Holocene-Recent; Western Atlantic.]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Terebra cinerea by Abbott (1954); it was recombined as Terebra (Hastula) cinerea by Weisbord (1962); it was recombined as Hastula cinerea by da Silva Forti (1969); it was recombined as Impages cinerea by Massemin et al. (2009).
