Paludestrina australis was named by d'Orbigny (1837) [DISTRIBUTION: Holocene-Recent; Western Atlantic.]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Littoridina australis by da Silva Forti (1969); it was recombined as Heleobia australis by Rosenberg (2005).
