Calliasterella americana was named by Kesling and Strimple (1966). Its type specimen is Illinois State Geological Survey, Holotype IGS 42P4 , paratype IGS 42P1-42P3 and is not a trace fossil.

Successive adambulacrals overlapping proximally; dorsal podial pores forming prominent groove on proximal side of ambulacral. Plane of abradial ambulacral-ambulacral articular surfaces oriented approximately parallel to central ossicular axis therefore subsequent ambulacrals not significantly overlapping, ambulacrals approximately bilateral. |
