Ostrea senatoria was named by Gmelin (1791) [m. kosnik taxon no: 8961]. It is extant.

It was corrected as Ostrea senatorius by Gmelin (1791); it was recombined as Pecten (Chlamys) senatorius by Martin (1911), Vredenburg (1928) and Oostingh (1935); it was recombined as Chlamys senatorius by Martin (1916); it was recombined as Chlamys senatoria by Cox (1931), Cox (1936), Mukerjee (1939) and Azzaroli (1958); it was recombined as Chlamys (Chlamys) senatorius by Skwarko (1994); it was recombined as Chlamys (Chlamys) senatoria by Tiwari and Kachhara (2003); it was recombined as Mimachlamys senatoria by Hendy (2007).
