Trophon succinctus was named by Tenison-Woods (1879) [DISTRIBUTION: Cenozoic; Southern Australia.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Peristernia succinctus by Tate (1888); it was recombined as Ellicea succinctus by Darragh (1970).
