Taxonomy
Phos variciferus was named by Tate (1888) [DISTRIBUTION: Cenozoic; Southern Australia.]. It is not a trace fossil. It is the type species of Phos.

It was recombined as Loxotaphrus variciferus by Darragh (1970).
