Taxonomy
Miodon prolongatus was named by Carpenter (1864) [DISTRIBUTION: Miocene-Recent; Eastern Pacific, Japan.]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Venericardia (Miodontiscus) prolongatus by Itoigawa (1958); it was recombined as Miodontiscus prolongatus by Palmer (1958), Hertlein and Grant (1972), Coan (1977), Moore (1992) and Coan et al. (2000).
