Taxonomy
Tellina calcarea was named by Gmelin (1792) [DISTRIBUTION: Oligocene-Recent; Alaska-Oregon, Japan, Norway-Iceland-New York.]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Macoma calcarea by Soot-Ryen (1932) and Kafanov et al. (2001); it was recombined as Macoma (Macoma) calcarea by Coan et al. (2000), Moore (2003) and Hendy (2021).

Synonyms
  • Tellina clivosa was named by Böhm (1916) [DISTRIBUTION: Cenozoic; North Pacific.]. It is not a trace fossil.

    It was recombined as Tellina (Peronidia) clivosa by Zhidkova (1968); it was synonymized subjectively with Macoma calcarea by Kafanov et al. (2001).
  • Macoma tenera was named by Leach (1819). It is extant.

    It was recombined as Tellina tenera by Clark (1906); it was synonymized subjectively with Macoma calcarea by Hendy et al. (2008).
  • Tellina sabulosa was named by Spengler (1798). It is extant.

    It was recombined as Macoma sabulosa by Buddington and Chapin (1929); it was synonymized subjectively with Macoma (Macoma) calcarea by Coan et al. (2000).
